Now that I have been here in Italy for about half a year, I have also reached the
half-time of my project.
First, I want to say, how happy I am to be here and not anywhere else. I think
somehow, I ended up exactly where I was supposed to be, because this place, this
project, these people; they help me learn things about myself, I didn’t know were
there. I see everything and everybody through a different light of raw beauty and
appreciation for what is and not for what could be. Of course, not everything is
perfect, close to it, but still. It’s not about that, it is about what you do with what
you have.
Now to the less philosophical part:
My language skills are improving every day and because of that I feel I am also
improving in my job. I’m building connections with and between the young
people in my project, and I it gives me the feeling that I am opening doors and
corridors for some, which gives me a great sense of purpose.
Recently I had a very meaningful talk with a group of girls who usually seem very
closed off. After it I felt like I could speak with anyone without the fear I had in the
first few months especially because of the language barrier.
Other than that, I have also been traveling around Italy quite a lot and I´ve seen so
many beautiful places with a bunch of also beautiful people. Last weekend I
visited Torino with Emma (my flat-, room-, and soulmate) because our mentor
Roberta recommended is to us. There we experienced the craziest adventures
one of them being, getting invited to a private tour of a museum about Persian
rugs where we met an inspiring Iranian-born art dealer, journalist, author and
lecturer named Taher. He kindly invited us to his store, where he also
has a gallery of very old very beautiful carpets. In the end we took a picture
with him, and he gave us each a free copy of his magazine “GHEREH -
International Carpet & Textile Reviev”. It was very unexpected which made it
even cooler!
Other than that, I have managed to create a very good routine and also a good
balance between my work- and free time-self. I feel very fulfilled at this
moment in time and I truly have a feeling I’m building a good life for myself here.
I’m very excited for what’s to come and what new challenges I will be facing!
