"Emotional intelligence in youth work: new generation skills" - Youth Workers Exchange

From the 27th of June to the 03rd of July 2025 we hosted a Youth Workers Exchange (YWE) on Emotional Intelligence and how it helps to improve the lives and the work of the youth workers.

A total of 26 international youth workers participated in the exchange, which involved 14 different countries: Italy, Greece, Lithuania, Austria, Cyprus, Spain, Estonia, Romania, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Portugal, Germany and Denmark.

The main topic of the exchange was Emotional Intelligence and how it helps to improve the lives and the work of the youth workers.

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the ability of a person to identify and recognize one's own and others’ emotions. It allows using emotional information to guide one’s behaviour and adapt to different environments. EI boosts the ability of listening and mediating – that is crucial when working with young people.

During the exchange we talked and learned about emotions, introducing emotion regulation tools and excersises, that we also put in practice during the week-long experience. We also practiced non-violent communication - best ever practical tool of emotional intelligence!

Lastly, as outputs of the project, the participants created a few posters summarising what was learnt during the exchange: from emotion regulation tools to stress management, to tips on how to connect with others better, and so on.

The posters are freely available for download here below!
