Volunteer work in a retirement home in Silandro Blog dei volontari

I’ve been doing my volunteer work in a retirement home since October and I couldn’t be happier with my choice.

I spend a lot of time with the residents: I play games with them, go for small walks, have conversations, accompany them to activities, or simply sit with them and hold their hands in silence.
Of course, my daily tasks also include setting the tables, cleaning up afterwards and serving food.
People often think that a retirement home is a depressing place. This one isn’t. Staff and residents interact in a warm and respectful way, creating an atmosphere in which everyone can be who they are and feel comfortable.
I am very happy with my decision and so far I have never regretted it. I will always be grateful for this experience and for all the people I have met here — my colleagues, the residents, and other volunteers.
