A Gap year ? Blog dei volontari

Ciao ragazzi!

Time really flies. Looking back, I can say this year has already taught me so much more than I expected.

The beginning was definitely tough. I didn’t speak Italian when I arrived, and that made many things difficult. But that has changed a lot – even though I haven’t had that many language classes, working at my school has helped me improve a lot.
Now, I can communicate quite well, which makes everyday life and work here more fun.

Speaking of work: my time at Comenius Secondary School in Cognola, where I supported German and English lessons, has been both rewarding and challenging. I’ve met some kind and supportive teachers, but there were also stressful moments, where I felt to be more or less on my own. Still, the positive experiences outweigh the difficult ones by far, special thanks to the 3E, a bunch of wonderfully kind students.

One of the biggest highlights of my experience has been the people. I’ve met so many individuals from different cultures – and some of them have truly become friends I wouldn’t imagine my life without now. It’s the social connections, the culture, and yes, even the challenges, that kept me going when things got hard.

This year has really changed me. I’ve learned things like staying calm in any situation – when your bus doesn’t come and you realize there won’t be another one… well, eventually you’ll get home anyway or you have a friend in Lavis.
And you know what? Facing those little daily problems actually became fun in a way, because you grow with each one and feel even more proud afterward.

It’s the small decisions and little moments that made me realize I made the right choice. This wasn’t really a “gap year” for me – it was a guiding experience. Now I feel more confident and motivated for whatever comes next in life.

Because even if not everything goes according to plan – someone strange gets mad at you & people in charge have no idea how to act – I’ve learned that it’s about making the best of it.
Just go „immer mit dem Gefälle“

I’m grateful for the opportunity, experience & the people I met.
This picture makes me a bit nostalgic,
Grazie Trentino.
Arrivederci,

Bjarne
