Participants from Italy, Spain and Poland join our Youth Exchange “SHAPING – SHAring good Practice among mINority Groups”

Youth Exchange "Shaping" about linguistic minorities

Inco in partnership with the organisation Kiribil Sarea (Spain, Basque country) and FKDP (Poland) carried out a Youth Exchange last November called “SHAPING” on the topic of Linguistic Minorities.

We, as InCo, received participants from the Basque Country, Spain; Poland (Ukrainian linguistic minority) and Italy (Ladin minority) who, in addition to sharing their mother tongue, also speak a specific language belonging to their community. Among the activities, various workshop were held to gain a better understanding of the different cultures of these countries, so there was an opportunity for the participants to present their country's and linguistic minorities features and history. At the same time that they held special dinners to give us a taste the delicious dishes of its traditional cuisine.

In addition, a visit to Val di Fassa, Italy was organized to learn a little more about the history and the custums of the Ladin culture and the imminent work that institutions such as the Ladin High School and the Ladin Cultural Institute perform every day supporting the conservation and recreation of Ladin language

We appreciate the support of both Italian local organisation “Forum Trentino per la Pace” and “Tangram” as they were part of this project carrying out an activity to explain to the participants how to become more active within their community. Which resulted in a great reflection!

The Youth Exchange concluded with an extraordinary group synergy, many hugs, some tears, but above all the participants take with them the most important treasure: a greater self-possession of themselves and a greater openness to the understanding of the world that surrounds them. They are ready now to bring enthusiasm, skills and knowledge acquired back to their own home-community to devolope projects on peaceful cohesistence.
